This position we are currently hiring for at our growing company is in Lakewood and Mentor, OH where we offer several different services for people and their pets.

All Attendants have duties and responsibilities including providing excellent animal care as well as properly cleaning and disinfecting crates, condos, dog runs, kennel yards and common areas and general housekeeping throughout the entire facility.

Safety is the responsibility of each individual and management expects all work to be done in a safe manner.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Pets in our facility must be cared for promptly, every day. The facility is staffed 365 days a year and is exceptionally busy when schools are on holiday recess. Experience is desired, however a genuine love for animals is a must. You must be able to handle dogs of all sizes without being afraid of them and without allowing them to control you. You must be in good physical condition, able to squat, stoop, bend, lift, and do a lot of walking. Must be willing to maintain the highest standards in cleanliness. There will be opportunities for advancement, if you excel.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Job description:

Purpose of Job
The Daycare Attendant’s role is to help manage safe and controlled playgroups and to oversee the total care of all the dogs in the facility on any given day.  This position is critical as you will help to maintain the high standard and quality of individualized care our customers have come to expect.  Paying attention to the details, communication and teamwork our the top priorities of this job and ownership will have high expectations that you are following company protocol at all times in order to be an excellent example for all team members.

Expectations and Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Supervising large groups of dogs with other team members both inside & outside
    • Use of obedience skills and benevolent leadership to control the pack
    • Greet and engage with clients during arrivals and departures
    • Maintaining sanitary play yards, suites and enclosures and ensuring that ITD is inviting and clean at all times
    • General cleaning including: laundry, washing dishes and mopping
    • Preparing meals and administering medications
    • Greet and engaging with clients during check-in process
    • Must be able to follow directions and comply with processes and procedures for best practices in animal care, health and safety
    • Help to ensure accuracy of total number of dogs in house
    • Perform feedings accurately and pass on communication if dogs are not eating
    • Integrate new dogs into the pack following the protocol and evaluate throughout the day
    • Intake daycare dogs safely and in a controlled manner, ensure that dogs are checked off on list
    • Intake boarding dogs safely and in a controlled manner, ensure that all belongings are reviewed, feeding/med instructions are provided, and that all boarding check in questions have been answered
    • Set up dogs in the evening and consult with owners on proper sleeping arrangements
    • Implement progress report as necessary
    • Ensure that the dogs have fresh water at all times
    • Know our veterinary partners and our emergency plan
    • Have a good understanding of canine first aid and take the lead on any first aid care needed on the floor
    • Work with dogs on the floor to continue our commitment to training and keeping the dogs engaged in a positive manner on the floor
    • Assist grooming when needed and help groomer retrieve dogs from play arenas
    • Ensure that all dogs just groomed are kept clean by any means necessary
    • Observe dogs for any and all odd behaviors, signs of illness or injury and report to owners if anything of concern comes to your attention
    • Constantly be touching and feeling the dogs, looking at feet, ears, teeth, etc… so we can communicate to clients when a dog is in need of a nail trim, teeth clean, groom, or if there’s anything concerning that a vet should evaluate
    • Entering client information, scheduling and payment into the computer

Teamwork & Communication

    • Work as a team to ensure obedience skills are used to manage the pack
    • Read white board on a daily basis and take note of all comings/goings, special instructions, etc.
    • Ensure that all communication is passed along to next shift’s teammate
    • Assist superior in ensuring that all policies and procedures are being followed

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift food and belongings weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Handle animals weighing up to 150 pounds
    • Work standing, walking and bending for 6-8 hour shifts
    • Stamina to work with energetic dogs, while ensuring our facility is inviting and sanitary

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a pet facility or pet care environment a plus
  • Basic understanding of dog communication
  • Excellent work history and references

COMPENSATION

Pay depends on experience. Performance based bonus upon approval.

We are seeking an individual that is team oriented and has excellent communication skills with fellow colleagues, clients and the community. Being compassionate and empathetic comes natural to this kind, happy and fun to work with professional. As a detailed and precise hard worker, the right candidate is self-motivated and accepts feedback well. Eager for more responsibility, this self-sufficient multi-tasker is also calm and smart.

Candidates must demonstrate the following professional attributes:

  • Have certification from an accredited grooming school & at least 1 year of professional grooming experience or have apprenticed under a certified groomer for at least 3 years.
  • Proficient in all dog breed specific cuts and styles
  • Knowledgeable with all grooming techniques including hand scissoring
  • Confident in ability to work around all dog types, breeds & temperaments
  • Cat grooming is a plus & creative groomers are welcome
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls
  • Professionally greet and understand client needs during the check-in process.
  • Confidence in collecting and discussing money for services rendered
